LYNDONVILLE, VERMONT — UMPI split with the Hornets of Vermont State Lyndon in the North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Advancing to 3-1 in the NAC.
Game 1 (11-3)
How it happened:
The Hornets came out of the gate with an early run to take the lead, although UMPI answered with a two-run homer by Gracelyn Walsh to take a 2-1 lead in the third inning. A quick answer by the Hornets gave them a 5-2 lead. The Owls again answered with a run in the fourth, although it was not enough as the Hornets got hot at the plate, scoring six more runs in the fourth and six innings.
At the Plate:
The Owls were able to put together five hits on the game, led by senior Zoe Aylward-Frank, hitting two off of three at bats.
On the Mound:
Walsh started the game for the Owls, pitching the first 5.1 inning before Megan Buchholz took over late in the fifth inning, before the Hornets were able to end the game. Giving up a total of 12 hits and eight earned runs.
Game 2 (6-2 Owls)
How it happened:
The Owls put together a defensive win in game two, finishing their weekend series'. In the first Hailey Saylor started the teams off with a SAC fly to give UMPI an early 1-0 lead. Another response by Vermont tied the game before both teams hit a cold streak at the plate for a couple innings. In the sixth, the bats woke up as UMPI scored two runs to regain their lead. Lyndon looked to battle back in the sixth, although it was not enough as the Owls took the win, 3-2.
At the Plate:
With seven hits as a team, it was Zoe Aylward-Frank leading the Owls again at the plate with another two hits on her three at bats. Along with Saylor, also finishing the game with two hits, each finished the game with an RBI as well. Zoe Stewart also recorded an RBI on the night.
On the mound:
Hailey Saylor earned her second win of the year, pitching the complete game and allowing just one earned run and seven hits. Striking out two batter but forcing ten fly-outs and eight ground-outs, as the Owls defense had her back.
