UMPI Battle Knox in Spring Trip Game

AUBURNDALE, FL — The Owls (1-4) matched up with the Knox Prairie Fire of Illinois (0-4) for the second to last game of their spring trip. UMPI's bats just couldn't string anything together in the nine inning affair while Knox had some well placed hits to build on their lead as the game progressed. UMPI fell 8-2.

How it happened:
Once again, the Owls struggled out the gate dropping 4 runs through the first two innings. From there it seemed to level off. UMPI would add a run in the top of the sixth to pull within three before giving it up in the bottom half. Knox would plate three runs across in the seventh while the owls could only manage to tack one more on in the final innings.

On the mound:

Junior Spencer Harman earned his first start of the season after a great performance in relief earlier in the week. Harman struggled early giving up four through the first two innings before settling in quite nicely for the next few innings. He would pitch into the 7th inning. Harman would go 6.2 innings striking out four and walking just two. He ran into trouble in the seventh, eventually being charged for all eight of Knox's runs. In relief, Sophomore Mason Long did a solid job over the last two frames. He went 1.1 innings allowing just one hit on no runs while striking out one.

At the Plate:

The Owls had their first real dry day at the plate of the year in this game. That was the case for almost all except their Captain Timothy Burns who went 3 for 4. The highlight of the game at the plate was Burns' 8th inning home run to left field. This was Tim's 9th career long ball.

Next up: The Owls would have one more game at the RussMatt to be played the next day versus Salem State University.
