AUGUSTA, ME
It was a scoring party for the Owls, who took on the University of Maine at Augusta Moose on Tuesday evening down at the Augusta Civic Center in our state's capital. The Owls reached 90 for the second straight game and start off this season shooting very well from the field, coming off a 96-point losing effort to USM last Friday.
UMPI made a big splash early on, jumping out to a 10-0 lead and ultimately never looked back. They shot 46.2% from the field and were 7-14 from three-point land. The Owls went up 44-16 at the break.
In the second half, the Owls went deep into their bench and made sure to spread the wealth. An impressive 15 different players found the scoring column before the night was over as the Owls cruised to a 90-55 victory over the UMA Moose.
Top Performers:
Akhe McMichael led the Owls in scoring once again with 16 points in just 19 minutes played. This comes on the heels of his 32-point performance at USM. McMichael also secured six rebounds. James Yamashita had 11 points off the bench for UMPI including three triples. Gilbert Jean Mendez and Dwaine Williams each added nine, while Doug McCalla added seven as well as 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes of work. Aleix Moreno also had seven points for UMPI.
The Owls showcased their depth on Tuesday night as they collected 47 points from their bench.
UMPI evens their record at 1-1 and will now shift their attention to the Charlie Ryan Classic hosted by Thomas College this coming weekend. The Owls will first face Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Friday night, and Paul Smith's College on Saturday afternoon.
