WATERVILLE, ME
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Men's Soccer Team concluded their season on the road against the first place Thomas College Terriers. UMPI were able to compete most of the first half with Thomas, before the Terriers took off in the second half.
The game began with Thomas scoring on a penalty kick in the 29th minute to go up 1-0 following a foul in the box. The Owls answered however, five minutes later with their own PK goal from Remar Shirley after a Thomas foul in the box. The game stayed at this score until the 42nd minute when the Terriers broke the tie, going up 2-1.
The second half was a much different story than the first, as Thomas scored five goals in the 48th, 59th, 63rd, and 79th minutes. Thomas would go on to win by the score of 7-1.
The Owls were not held without offense however, putting up shots during the game and all but one of them was on target. Remar Shirley led with two shots, while five other players had one shot each. Stefan Pinante, Jovain Barrett, Star Boma, Billy Wray, and Isaac Doore all pitched in a shot on goal, while Nyden Reed had one shot as well.
The Owls graduate four seniors: Remar Shirley, Nyden Reed, Steven Nader, and Ethan Albair. UMPI thanks these four for their outstanding careers and dedication their program over the last few years.
The Owls finish their 2024 season at 2-12-1. The highlight likely would be their draw at Maine Maritime Academy last Saturday, in which they came from behind to tie 2-2 with the second-place Mariners.
