The University of Maine at Presque Isle Volleyball team put on a good showing for the home crowd on senior night with a doubleheader sweep of NAC opponent Lesley University. The four seniors that were recognized before the game: Bailey Michelle LaPlante,
Myah Bragdon,
Kylee Blazick, and
Alexis Engel.Â
Match 1 (UMPI 3-0) 25-12, 25-17, 25-14
The Owls dominated almost the whole of the first match, amassing 29 kills and 24 aces as a team. Set one saw Lesley get off to a fast start however, going up 7-3 before the Owls stormed back later with a stretch of scoring 10 of 11 points to go up 18-11. They closed out the set with ease winning 25-12. Set two saw UMPI take control from the beginning and keep it. They won 25-17, never trailing except at 2-1. In the final set, the Owls jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Lesley rallied with six points in a row to go up 6-5. The Owls proved to be too much for the Lynx in this one after that as they closed out the match in fire. Senior,
Alexis Engel rattled off five aces in a row toward the end of set three to put the nail in the coffin. With this win, the Owls punched their ticket to the North Atlantic Conference tournament in early November.

Myah Bragdon had five kills on her senior night while
Jade Anspach and
Brooklynn Siebrasse joined her with the same mark.
Alexis Engel also contributed eight aces to lead in that category while chipping in 14 digs.
Kylee Blazick had 15 digs to lead the owls while Mia Guttierez had 13.
Rylie Kolkow had 25 assists for the Owls.
Match 2: (UMPI 3-0) 25-13, 25-19, 25-13
Set one of the non-conference contest saw the Owls slowly but surely creep away with a commanding lead at 14-3. Despite two four point runs by Lesley the Owls early lead gave them the victory at 25-13. Set two was back and forth for the first ten points before the Owls pulled away to lead 10-4. It stayed 50/50 ball from there as Lesley fought hard to stay in it and pulled within three points at 20-17. UMPI took care of business and closed it out to win 25-19. In set three, the Owls continued their trend of taking an early lead and keeping it throughout. In a fitting end to senior night, Bailey Michelle-LaPlante was the final server for the Owls and served in the last five points to seal the victory.
Top Performers:
Alexis Engel led in kills with nine while
Jade Anspach and
Brooklynn Siebrasse added eight and seven respectively. Engel also led in digs with 15.
Kylee Blazick and
Mia Gutierrez each had 12.
Rylie Kolkow put up an impressive 34 assists to pace the Owls' attack.
UMPI improves to 8-12 on the year and 2-3 in conference play. They have four games remaining in the regular season beginning at Maine Maritime Academy next Friday night at 6pm.
