BANGOR, Maine (Oct. 12th, 2024) - The University of Maine at Presque Isle's men's & women's cross country programs were back in action this weekend on the course at Saxl Park in Bangor at the Husson Invite hosted by North Atlantic Conference foe Husson on Sat., Oct. 12th.
Heading into the meet the Owls were fresh off a bye week following a successful team showing at the St. Thomas Invite. The men's 8K race saw UMPI take fourth on the team leaderboard, guided by
Westley Dyer's 30:22 (11th-place) effort on a very hilly course. The men's crew tallied an 11-17-19-20-23 mark in scoring to total 90 points. The Owls saw Dyer supported by
David Gustin (36:12), Isiah Williams (39:51),
Hector Perez (42:44) and
Nick Anderson (44:38). Williams and Anderson secured PR's for their performances.
Earlier in the day the women of UMPI represented the Yellow & Blue in the 6K race led by
Milaya Buchanan's PR of 33:14 (27th-place).
Serena Lufkin (34:20) & Avery Vonkadich (39:25) added to Buchanan's effort for the team, with Lufkin setting a seasonal personal best and Vonkadich earning a career high mark.
Owls XC will be back on the road down south to Standish, Maine next weekend as UMPI will face its final regular season competition at the Saint Joseph College of Maine Invitational on Oct. 19th.
