Owls Wins on the Road at UMFK

Ft. Kent, ME – The Owls and the Host Bengals went head-to-head on Friday night in a non-conference game between the two rivals with UMPI pulling out a close 56 to 52 victory.
 
The UMPI and UMFK teams swapped leads 4 times in the 1st quarter before the Owls finished the first 10 minutes of play with a 15 to 11 advantage. UMPI's defense in the second frame came up big holding the Home Team to just 8 points while scoring 18 themselves and going into halftime with a 33 to 19 lead. Lexi Ireland scored 8 points in the half and Lindsay Hamilton added 6, while Aleia Milano dished out 5 assists in the 1st half to pace the Owls.
 
UMFK came out hot in the 3rd quarter and outscored UMPI 18 to 13 to close the gap to 46 to 37 after 3 periods of play. The Owls would go scoreless for 5 minutes in the 4th quarter as the Bengals got within 46 to 45. UMPI would help themselves from the Foul Line with Ireland and Gray going 5 for 6 in the 4th but it would be a big 3 pointer from Emily Wheaton with 16.4 seconds remaining in the game that would seal the win for the Owls.
 
Ireland had another outstanding game for UMPI (11-7) with 16 points and 23 rebounds. Hamilton would finish with 15 points and 7 boards while Gray added 8 points and Milano recorded 8 assists along with 6 rebounds and 6 points. Hannah Jones paced UMFK (11-3) with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Coreeahn Yharborough added 14 points and 6 assists.
 
Next up: UMPI travels to Thomas College on Tuesday for a NAC game at 7:30 PM
