Owls Battle Husson in Rainy Conditions

McLaughlin Scores First Career Goal

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls hosted the Eagles of Husson University on the rainy evening. The game was played at the Presque Isle Middle School's Dr. Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex due to the amount of rain at the Owls home grass field. The Eagles would take the win with a score of 6-2.

The Eagles started the game off with two very early goals to give them a quick 2-0 lead just three minutes into the game. The Eagles continued to put pressure on the Owls throughout the first half, scoring another goal in the 40-minute mark as the team headed into the half. Just ten minutes into the second the Eagles would put another goal on the board. Then the energy on the field would change as senior defender Monica McLaughlin scored a goal from deep to end the drought for UMPI, this would be the senior captains first career goal. Although Husson would answer with two more goals in the 59th and 64th minutes, the Owls were battling harder than ever. The teams continued to battle in the back-and-forth play, the pressure from UMPI would pay off with a goal by Alexis Ireland to give them their second of the night. It was McLaughlin who earned the assist in the 74th minute goal. Despite being down late, the Owls impressed everyone with their grit and continuous effort until that final horn.

The Eagles finished the game with 32 shots and 17 on goal to the Owls six shots and three on goal. McLaughlin highlighted the box score with her goal and assist on the night while Ireland's four shots, two shots on goal led the Owls on the offensive end. Marissa Havey spent the duration in goal for UMPI, finishing with ten saves as she put up a tremendous effort against this tough Eagles team.
 

Next Up: UMPI will host Fisher College on Sunday before heading on the road next week.
