PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – After another promising season for the Owls men's basketball team on the court, finishing with a 13-14 record, 8-6 in the North Atlantic Conference and finishing fourth in the MMBCWA.  The Owls also put in the work in the classroom, receiving the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Excellence Award, which is awarded to NCAA men's basketball programs who have a team GPA of over a 3.0.

For the second year in a row the Owls are recognized as a team in their efforts in the classroom. This team award was earned by the efforts of the entire Owls roster. The Owls work off the court was led by captains Griffin Guerrette and KJ Minter. Guerrette, a graduate school student in the Organizational Leadership program and KJ Minter a graduating senior, Psychology major, each were named to the NABC Honors Court for the second year in a row. This award is rewarded to seniors or graduate students with a cumulative GPA of over a 3.5. Guerrette also received Second Team All-NAC and First Team All-State. Minter's efforts on the court was a tremendous contribution to the Owls success, especially on the defensive end. Senior captain, Parker Onorato, narrowly missed the senior honors, along with many of the Owls underclassman helped the team earn this NABC Team Excellence Award.

Head Coach Dan Kane spoke about his team's effort in the classroom, "This was the second time our program has received the NABC Team Excellence Award. I am extremely proud of our entire team and their efforts not just on the court but in the classroom as well. A special congratulations to our graduated seniors who helped turn around the men's basketball program over the past five years, doing the right things on the court, in the classroom, and in our community. It is a well-deserved honor for KJ and Griffin to make the NABC Honors Court for the second time and Parker Onorato just missed the honor by a fraction of a point.  We are extremely proud of all three of them.  They have set the standard of what we want our men's basketball student athletes to be and have been tremendous leaders setting a new standard for the future of UMPI men's basketball."
