UMPI Announces 2023 Owls Hall of Fame Inductees

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The University of Maine at Presque Isle is proud to announce the 2023 Hall of Fame inductees. 
The following four UMPI alumni and the 1974 Men's Basketball team will be inducted in the UMPI Owls Athletics Hall of Fame. In addition to these recipients, UMPI Athletics will also recognize the first "Patrick Baker and Aaron Marston Athletics Impact Memorial Award" recipient.  
The UMPI Owls Hall of Fame will take place on Saturday, September 16th on Homecoming Weekend in the UMPI Campus Center – MPR.

Jay Bedwell – Men's Basketball – 1984-1988
    In his four years playing basketball at UMPI, Bedwell finished third all-time on the UMPI scoring list for the men's basketball team, with 1,404 points. Bedwell currently sits at the fifth spot in the Owls all-time scoring list. 

Pam Gee – Women's Basketball – 1982-1986
    As a four year athlete for the Owls, Gee finished her women's basketball career with 1,000 points. This put her in the seventh spot for the Owls women's basketball all-time scoring list.
    
Andy Jones – Men's Basketball – 1983-1987
    As a four year men's basketball player, Jones finished his career with 1,111 points, where he was fourth all-time when graduating in 1987. Jones currently sits 12th all-time on the men's basketball scoring list. 

Lorri (Morrow) Joseph – Women's Basketball & Women's Volleyball – 1998-2000
    Joseph, a three year transfer from the University of Maine at Machias, went on to have a tremendous career as a dual sport athlete for UMPI. Joseph went on to finish her career with 1,219 points. Finishing third all-time when graduating, now, sitting at the fourth spot on the Owls women's basketball all-time scoring list. Joseph was also a standout player on the Owls' volleyball team for three years.

1974 UMPI Owls Men's Basketball Team
    In 1974, the Owls men's basketball team finished with an overall record of 15-5, while winning the Northeast Conference Championship. The Owls finished their season 9-2 in conference play. Under head coach Frank McGrath, the Owls would go on to win their first NAIA District 32 game vs St. Joseph, 65-63. The Owls would play their final game of the season vs Keene State, losing 82-66 to put an end to their historical season. 

Barbara Blackstone will be awarded the "Patrick Baker and Aaron Marston Athletics Impact Memorial Award"
     Blackstone, a 1991 UMPI graduate, helped mold UMPI's athletic training/exercise science programs. While continuing to grow within the academic ranks, Blackstone stayed active within UMPI varsity athletics making tremendous contributions in athletic training, as well as serving as the department's Senior Women's Administrator for 12 years as UMPI transitioned into the NCAA Division III ranks.

The University of Maine at Presque Isle 2023 Hall of Fame Dinner will take place at UMPI on September 16th, on Homecoming Weekend at 5:30PM in the UMPI Campus Center - MPR.
