Softball Completes NAC Sweep vs Hornets

Stewart Hit Second Homer of the Year

HUDSON, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Owls Softball Sweeps Hornets in first North Atlantic Conference Games of the Year. The Owls handled the Hornets, 12-6 in the first game after falling behind early. The Hailey Saylor led the Owls on the mound with a shutout, 10-0 Owls.

Game 1: 12-6, Owls

The game started with a 2 RBI single by Rachel Billings to bring Dalaney Anfinson and Saylor home to give the Owls a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Hornets came right back at UMPI, scoring four runs in the first and two in the second to give them an early 6-2 lead. From then on, it was all UMPI. Starting it off was a two-run homer by Zoe Stewart, this would be the first year's second homer on the year. The Owl continued the rally, scoring four more runs in the third to take an 8-6 lead. A couple more hits in the 5th and 6th brought in the Owls other four runs to give them the win.

While the Owls stayed hot at the plate it was Gracelyn Walsh pitching the complete game, striking out four batters, causing seven flyouts and ten groundouts, and allowing four hits and earning the win.

Game 2: 10-0, Owls

In the second game of the day, it was Hailey Saylor leading the Owls on the mound. Pitching the complete game, five innings, striking out six batters and only allowing one hit on the game and no walks. The single hit came in the third inning, after which, not another batter saw a base in the fourth and fifth innings.

Seven of the Owls ten runs came in the second innings, led by Olivia Gray's RBI double to get the first run in. The Owls would dominate at the plate, in just five innings, they finished with eight hits. Including four doubles, coming from Gray, Walsh, Rachel Billings and Dalaney Anfinson. UMPI earned nine RBI's and finished the game with zero strikeouts.
 

The Owls will continue their NAC weekend with a doubleheader vs NVU-Johnson tomorrow evening.
