Owls Split with Mustangs

AUBURN, MAINE – The Owls softball team split with Central Maine Community College in their non-conference doubleheader. Losing the first game 4-1 before turning it around and winning the second game 3-1.

Game 1: 1-4 Mustangs

The Owls started off strong in the first inning, loading the bases with no outs. They were able to bring in one run on the inning. The Mustangs bounced back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game. The Owls struggles at the plate began, as they struck out ten times and finished with just three hits. The Terriers were able to get their offense going in the third inning scoring three runs off three hits and an Owls error.

Gracelyn Walsh pitched for the Owls, striking out five batters and allowing six hits and three earned runs. Olivia Scott pitched for the Mustangs earning the win, striking out ten batters and allowing just one earned run.

Game 2: 3-1 Owls

This time it was the Mustangs that started off the scoring in the first off a fielder's choice. From then on Hailey Saylor was in charge on the mound, allowing just two total hits on the game and striking out four batters. The Owls battled back with a run in the third inning coming off a Dalaney Anfinson sacrifice fly. Another single by Anfinson in the fifth scored the Owls second run of the day in the fifth. Then in the sixth Olivia Gray scored on an error by the Mustangs to give them their third run of the game.

Saylor pitched the complete game on the mound, also hitting one for four at the plate. The Owls finished with seven hits on the game.

The Owls will jump back into NAC play this week in a weekday match up against Husson University.
