Owls Fall in NAC Opener to Terriers

WATERVILLE, MAINE – The Owls faced off against the Terriers of Thomas College in their first North Atlantic Conference match-up of the year. The pitching battle ended in a 2-1 loss for the Owls in eight innings for the first game. The second of the NAC doubleheader went to the Terriers again, this time winning 15-2.

Game 1: 1-2 Terriers

Payton Jones battled on the mound for the Owls pitching the complete game, throwing 117 pitches, allowing just five hits on the game. Striking out three batters and only walking one and allowing just one run. Willette earned the win for the Terriers, as he pitched the complete game, striking out eight batters and allowing just three hits. Jones earned the only RBI of the day
for the Owls as well.

Game 1: 2-15 Terriers

The Terriers started off their scoring in the first with a big seven run inning, eventually hitting in 11 runs in the first three innings. In the fifth the Owls were able to force some Terriers errors, eventually bringing in two runs to cut the lead. Later the scoring continued for the Terriers to give them their 15 runs.

Joey Lippo led the Owls with three hits on his five at bats along with Ricky Goupille with his three hits on four at bats. UMPI finished with ten hits to the Terriers 12. Jordan Young started the game with the Owls allowing six earned runs. Brock Thompson pitched the majority of the game, pitching five innings and allowing five hits, walking six to go with his two strikeouts. Three more Owls players appeared on the mound. Paillet earns the win for the Terriers, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out nine batters.

The Owls will look to bounce back against the Terriers for another NAC doubleheader.
