Owls Sweep Falcons in Doubleheader - First Wins of the Year

MEDWAY, MASSACHUSETTS – The Owls softball team earned their first wins of the year with a doubleheader sweep vs the Fisher College Falcons. Winning the first game 8-1 and the second game 13-1 in just five innings.

It was the Falcons who started the day off with a run in the first inning, holding that lead until the third, where the Owls tied it up. It was the fourth inning where the Owls started to get their rhythm at the plate, scoring four runs. Dalaney Anfinson started the rally with an RBI single, Zoe Aylward-Frank followed with a two-RBI double and then it was Hailey Saylor hitting in Gracelyn Walsh for the final run of the inning.

In the fifth, Rachel Billings hit a double resulting in a run, then Anfinson hit another RBI single. Hailey Saylor continued to dominate on the mound, pitching the complete game and earning her first win of the year. Emily Blauvelt finished the game with a homer in the 7th to bring the final score to 8-1. Saylor finished the game with ten strikeouts and allowing one earned run.

The Owls continued their hot hitting in the second game. Starting it off was Emma McNally, who got on by an error and finished it off with a run, due to so good base running. Another error scored another UMPI run, while some bases loaded walks brought two more in to give the Owls a 4-0 lead early. A two-RBI single by Hailey Saylor brought two more runs in, in the second. Another two were added by another bases loaded walk and a ground out. With the game 8-0 going into the third the Owls put a stamp on it. Scoring five more runs, three RBI singles coming from Saylor, Emily Blauvelt and Olivia Gray scored three. Reagan Calvin hit an RBI triple, then another run came off a Falcons error.

The remainder of the game belonged to Gracelyn Walsh, as she earned her first win of the year, pitching all five innings. Striking out ten batters and only facing 20, allowing just three hits.

The Owls will face off against the Falcons in another doubleheader, 12:00 PM is the first game start time.
