Owls Edge Past UMA Moose

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Women's Basketball Team pulled out a non-conference win over U-Maine Augusta 64 to 60 on Tuesday evening. The win improved the Owls overall record to 14-8 on the season while the Moose drop to 16-5.

UMPI led 9-4 early on in the 1st quarter on an Aleia Milano layup followed by a 3 pointer from Emily Wheaton on an assist from Jelcecia Ma'Gee-Hodges. Another Wheaton 3 point hoop with 0:28 closed the 1st Quarter scoring with the Owls up 16-2.

A Marina Crespi drive and score early in the 2nd Quarter put UMPI out in front 18-12 but the Moose would come back to tie the game up 3 minutes later at 22-22. A Hailey Pacquet drive and layup finished the 1st half with UMPI ahead 28-26.

Both Teams swapped baskets in the 3rd Quarter with UMA gaining a 7 point lead at one point and held a slim 1 point lead 47 to 46 after 3 Quarters. In the 4th UMA's Alisyn Alley hit 2 free throws and a layup to give the Moose a 51 to 46 advantage. A Milanp 3 pointer on a feed from Wheaton gave the Owls a short-lived 55 to 53 lead before UMA's Sydney Farrar and Kaeti Butterfield each scored to put UMA back in front. Another Milano 3 pointer and 4 free throws by Wheaton secured the win for UMPI 64 to 60.

Emily Wheaton paced the Owls with 22 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds. Alexis Ireland recorded 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals, Aleia Milano scored 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists and Chantel Williams added 9 points and 8 rebounds. Alisyn Alley had an outstanding game for UMA with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.

Next up: UMPI travels to NVU-Lyndon for NAC games on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
