Owls Fight Hard vs Mariners

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Owls women's basketball game host North Atlantic Conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy in a single game. The Owls hosted the current number one team in the conference while falling to them late in the game 84-67.

The hard fought game was led early by Aleia Milano's 11-point first quarters as she was perfect from behind the arc in the first ten minutes. Finding themselves down by just two heading into the second quarter the Owls cooled off from their 50% first quarter shooting, although, picking up their defense and holding the Mariners to just 26% in the second. Going into halftime just down three points the Owls stayed with the number one team in the NAC.

In the second half, the Mariners were able to boost their lead from three points to seven, as they headed into the fourth quarter. The Mariners started the final ten minutes with a couple defensive stops to get their lead to double digits and the Owls were unable to get the momentum to make their comeback late.

Emily Wheaton led the way with 23 points on 3-8 shooting from deep and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, to go with her six assists. Milano finished the game with 17 points on 5-6 shooting from the three and a 60% overall shooting percentage. Alexis Ireland finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Owls will head on to the road for a doubleheader vs Thomas College Terriers in another NAC match up.
