Wheaton Scores her 1,000th Point as the Owls Win Big vs the Terriers

Owls Beat Terriers 88-48 in NAC Win

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls of UMPI advance to 3-0 in the North Atlantic Conference after a monster win over the Terriers, 88-48. The night was not only highlighted by the win to advance UMPI to 5-2 on the year, Graduate Student, Emily Wheaton as she scored her 1,000th career point.

The Owls came out of the gate with a big first half, scoring 23 points to the Terriers 14 to give them an early lead. With Wheaton just four points away from her milestone, an open three brought her within one. With the half coming to an end, Aleia Milano found her teammate open on the wing to give the career 37% 3-PT shooter an open look from way back to give her 1,000 points. The late bucket gave the Owls a 15-point lead going into the half.

To start the second was all UMPI as they handled the Terriers pressure and scored 27 points in the half, including 9-10 from the free throw line. To put the game away, the Owls held Thomas to just eight points in the fourth quarter to give them the statement win and an undefeated NAC record to finish their first semester of conference play.

Wheaton finished the night with 17 points on the game. While Wheaton was highlighted throughout the night, her teammate Milano put up some impressive numbers with a near triple-double, scoring 17 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out seven assists. All while shooting 7-15 from the field. Alexis Ireland finished with 11 points on the night, along with Olivia Gray, as she shot a perfect 4-4 from the field, and 2-2 from the free throw line.

Next Up: UMPI hosts U-Maine Augusta and Fisher College in a pair of non-conference home games this Friday and Saturday.
