Owls Advance to 2-1 in the NAC After Win Over Terriers

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls of UMPI advance to 2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference after beat the Terriers of Thomas College in their first home NAC game of the year. The Owls 91-80 victory brings them to 3-6 on the year and give the Terriers a loss in their first NAC game.

The Terriers jumped out to a quick lead as they found themselves up 14-6 after the first five minutes of the game. UMPI gradually fought their way back to bring the game tied at the 6:50 mark. To finish out the half the Owls maintained their momentum and went into the half up six points. In the second half the teams continued to exchange blows as the Owls would maintain the lead throughout. Eventually, UMPI boosted their lead to double digits while answering any bucket from the Terriers.

In his first game back off injury, Dany Harris led the Owls with 24 points, five rebounds, and five steals; while shooting 9-13 from the field and knocking down six of his seven free throws. Gilbert Jean Mendez finished with 17 points off 60% shooting and adding seven rebounds. Doug McCalla also finished with 17 points, adding nine rebounds, and shooting just under 50%. Myle Jones added ten points while grabbing eight rebounds. While the Owls scoring was highlighted by the efficient numbers, it was the UMPI defense that led them to their victory.


Next Up: UMPI hosts U-Maine Augusta and Fisher College in a pair of non-conference home games this Friday and Saturday.
