Owls Win Big Over Bengals

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Owls basketball team put the Bengals away in the home match vs the U-Maine System opponent, the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The Owls went on to beat the Bengals 104-66, while never trailing in the game, and advancing to 6-11 on the year and 4-1 at home.

The Owls found themselves on tied with the Bengals after the first five minutes of the game. It was the following five minutes where the Owls would go away with it, going on a 19-3 run to give them a 16 point lead with just under ten minutes to go in the half. UMPI continued to bump up their lead to 22 points as they headed into the locker rooms at halftime. The first half was led by the Owls Dany Harris' 15 points and Kj Minter's ten points and eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes. The Owls continued to bring the lead up as they were able to capitalize on their defensive stops. Eventually taking the game by 38 points.

Defensively the Owls held the Bengals to just 31.5% shooting from the field and just under 22% from the three, all while the Owls shot 50% from the field. Harris led the way with 21 points on 8-13 shooting to go along with his seven rebounds. Minter finished the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and nearly getting the triple-double with seven assists, all on 80% shooting. Griffin Guerrette, Gilbert Jean Mendez and Akhe McMichael each finished with double digit scoring, while a total of 14 Owls players contributed to the 104 points.

The Owls will head back into conference play as they host North Atlantic Conference opponent, the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers in a weekend doubleheader.
