Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Owls Men's Soccer Defeat Fighting Tigers 1-0

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Owls Men's Soccer team hosted North Atlantic Conference cross divisional opponent the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. The Owls would earn the win to advance to 2-1 in the NAC, as the Tigers fall to 0-2 in the NAC.

In the windy day up at Park Family Field, the Owls had the wind at their back in the first half as they were able to pressure the Tigers throughout the whole first half. This showed as the Owls took eight shots to the Tigers three. The first half would end scoreless despite the Owls pressuring the net. The second half started with the same as the first, pressuring the Tigers net. After a couple corners, the Owls finally put one in the back of the net. Caelan Billings would score the goal, assisted by Mathew Bayonne in the 66 minute of the game to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Owls would hold on to that lead for the remainder of the game, despite the constant pressure from the Fighting Tigers.

Billings and Bayonne led the team with three shots each while Steven Nader was able to get two shots on goal, coming all the way up from the defensive end. Xavier McAtee was in goal for the Owls finishing the game with four saves, and his first shutout of the year.

The Owls will continue hosting their NAC cross divisional opponents, as they host SUNY Delhi Sunday.
