Owls Fall to Bengals in Home Doubleheader

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team hosted their first home game of the season vs U-Maine System opponent the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The North County rival Bengals went away with two wins in the doubleheader match. Losing in three sets in both matches.
 
Match 1
Owls vs Bengals – 20-25, 16-25, 17-25
The team even throughout the majority of game one, the Bengals were able to grind out the win late in the first set. Starting the game down two the Bengals would go on a quick run to gain the lead, 11-9 early. More battling at the net, the Owls came up with a short run to gain back the lead, later finding themselves up 18-17. A couple errors by the Owls highlighted a run by the Bengals to gain the lead, then holding off the Owls with some kills at the net late in the game.

The second, some more back and forth by the two teams kept the game tight. Until the Bengals gained a slight edge and kept the lead throughout the set, answering each Owls run. The third set the Owls found themselves ahead the majority of the set, until a quick five point run by the Bengals gave them a 14-11 lead, which they would not let up the remainder of the game.

Makayla Miskiewicz led the Owls with eight kills on 40 attack attempts to give her ten points in the match. Amalia Erives led the Owls with ten assists to go along with her eight digs and six kills. The Owls finished the match with 22 kills to the Bengals 32, the big stat being the ten service aces by the Bengals.
 
Match 2
Owls vs Bengals – 7-25, 19-25, 13-25
In their second game of the day the Owls found themselves outmatched in the first set. The Bengals would finish with 13 kills to the Owls three. The second set, the Owls bounced right back with a quick run to give them an early lead. The Bengals would answer, and the back and forth play would begin. The teams battling, staying even on the score board as they exchange short runs. The back and forth continued until the teams found themselves tied at 17 each. A six point run by the Bengals, which came off four kills and a services ace, would put them ahead, too far for the Owls to answer.

The third set, the Owls found themselves down early. Battling in their short runs, the Owls would cut the lead close, but they followed by a run for the Bengals as they maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Makalya Miskiewicz would lead the way for the Owls in kills with six on 25 attempts, also leading the team in digs with 11. Amalia Erives led the team in assists with 11, while adding ten digs herself. Teammate Alexis Engel also recorded ten digs to go with her three kills and two assists.
 

The Owls will head to Fort Kent to face them in another doubleheader at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm at UMFK.
