UMPI Women's Soccer Falls to MMA in NAC Opener

Owls Lose Close One to Mariners 1-0

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Owls women's soccer team earns their first loss of the year vs North Atlantic Conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy. The Owls now sit at 0-1 in the NAC and 1-1-1 on the year, after losing the 1-0 game vs the Mariners.

The Owls found themselves down early with a goal by the Mariners in the 5th minute of the game. Kirra Magana would score the goal, and Hazel Stoddard earned the assist. The Owls would then spend the remainder of the half battling in midfield. Putting up three shots to the Mariners two, the Owls had the slight edge but not able to make anything happen.

The second half the Owls spent the majority of the game on the offensive attack, with eight shots in the second half to the Mariners two. With only one save for the Mariners, the majority of the shots by the Owls were blocked by Mariners defenders. As MMA battled on the defensive end to keep the lead. The game continued to become more physical as the Owls offense was nearing a goal. Although the time would expire as the Mariners would hold on with a victory, their first NAC win of the year.

The Owls will play non-conference opponent Fisher College at 12:00pm tomorrow at UMPI's Park Family Field.
