The Owls Compete in Day Two of Spring Trip

Fort Myers, FL – The Owls softball team competed in day two of their Florida Spring Break trip, playing in two games against Brockport and Skidmore, losing both games, 14-3 vs Brockport and 7-1 vs Skidmore.

Game 1 (14-3 – Brockport):

How it happened:

The Owls found themselves down early, despite having two runners in scoring position in the top of the first and not scoring. Brockport then scored in the bottom of the first off an RBI double. It was a different story in the second as the Owls scored three runs off and RBI by first year, Emma McNally (Patten, ME) and a single by Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) hit a two RBI single to give the Owls their third run. Brockport answered in the second with an RBI single. Brockport took the lead in the bottom of the third after scoring three runs off two doubles and a single. Brockport put the game away in the fourth, scoring nine runs off eight hits and two errors.

On the mound:

Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) started the game on the mound, pitching the first 3.1 innings, allowing eight earned runs and 13 hits. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) finished the final .2 innings, allowing one earned run. Stroh earned the win on the mound for Brockport, pitching a complete game, striking out four batters.

At the plate:

Diaz led the Owls with one hit and two RBI's, Hansen also finished the game with one hit. The Owls finished with two hits and six walks on the game.

Game 2 (7-1 – Skidmore):

How it happened:

The Owls found themselves down a run after Skidmore scored a run in the second inning. A triple by Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) was followed by a ground out from Alyssa Merone (Dover, NH) to bring Hansen home. Skidmore answered in the third with a single themselves. Skidmore took control of the game in the fourth, scoring five runs off two hits and an error.

On the mound:

Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) started the game on the mound, pitching the first four innings and allowing one earned run and walking four. Jennifer Ruesch (Delavan, WI) had her first appearance on the mound as she allowed four earned runs. Hansen finished the game pitching the final two innings and not allowing any runs and only two hits in the eight batters she faced. Raimondi earned the win for Skidmore with nine strikeouts and only allowing one earned run.

At the plate:

Hansen not only pitched well on the mound, she also had a great game on at the plate, hitting three for four including a double and a triple. The Owls finished the game with four hits and four walks.

The Owls will continue their spring trip with two games against Kenyon and Wilmington starting at 9:00am.
