Box Score 2 Auburndale, FL – The Owls baseball team finished day two of their Florida Spring Break trip with an 0-2 day. Losing to Rutgers-Newark 14-3 and falling to SUNY Plattsburgh 18-4.
Game 1 (14-3 – Rutgers-Newark):
How it happened:
The Owls started the scoring off early in the game with a fielder's choice to score Joey Lippo (Coupeville, WA) in the first inning to give the Owls their first run of the game. Rutgers-Newark answered with three runs in the bottom of the first off a two-run homer and a RBI triple. To give them a 3-1 lead. A single by Lippo scored another run for the Owls in the second while Rutgers answered with another homer. The Owls scored another run in the third off a single by Nathan Church (Dover Foxcroft, ME) giving the Owls their third run. It was all Rutgers after that with a two-run third, three runs in the fourth and fifth innings and two more runs in the sixth.
On the mound:
Spencer Harman (Sidney, BC) earned his first start for the Owls, pitching the first 3.1 innings, striking out two batters and allowing nine earned runs off eight hits. Kaiden Crowley (Jonesport, ME) pitched 1.2 innings striking out three batters and allowing three earned runs. Dakota Morrow (Presque Isle, ME) pitched the final inning for the Owls allowing two earned runs. Daniel Reardon earned the win for Rutgers pitching the first six innings and finishing with seven strikeouts and allowing 10 hits and two earned runs.
At the plate:
Lippo finished the game with three hits on four at bats and one RBI on the game. Timothy Burns also finished the game with three hits on four at bats. Jacob Moreno (Bourne, MA) finished the game hitting two for three from the plate.
Game 2 (18-4 – Plattsburgh):
How it happened:
SUNY Plattsburgh started the game off with a huge five-run first inning off five hits. The Owls scored off a leadoff homer by Joey Lippo (Coupeville, WA). A double by Bailey Corley (Lake Stevens, WA) led to him making his way home off two passed balls to score another run in the second. Plattsburgh scored four more runs off three hits and an error in the third to bring the score to 9-2. Three more runs came in the fourth for Plattsburgh. A couple steals by Dillan Carillo (Dumfries, VA) brought him to third and eventually scored off a fielder's choice in the fifth inning. Four more runs in the sixth by Plattsburgh in the sixth was followed by an RBI single by Tanner Vellieux (Belfast, ME) in the sixth. Plattsburgh added two more runs in the seventh.
On the mound:
Jordan Young (Graham, NC) earned the start, pitching the first 2.2 innings finishing with three strikeouts and allowing five earned runs. Nathan Church (Dover Foxcroft, ME) pitched the following 2.1 finishing with three K's and three earned runs. Ian McCray (Coppell, TX) pitched the last two innings for the Owls allowing four earned runs. Kolby Mordecki earned the win with five K's in his 5.1 innings pitched.
At the plate:
Lead off Joey Lippo (Coupeville, WA) hit his first career homer for the Owls in his only hit of the game, also walked once. The Owls finished the game with four hits and walked five times.
The Owls will continue their spring trip with a single game vs Brockport at 4:30PM.
