Box Score Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI men's basketball team took on Northern Vermont University – Lyndon in their final North Atlantic Conference double header. The Owls pulled out the win despite a second half run by the Hornets, Owls win 102-91.
The Owls came out strong in the first half, finishing the 20-minutes with an 11-point lead. The lead was let by Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, FL) with 15 points on 7-10 shooting and seven rebounds in just the first half. It wasn't just Mendez that gave the Owls offense life, Charlie Mellick (Canberra, Australia) finished the first half with 12 points on 5-6 shooting and a perfect 2-2 from behind the arc. As the Owls shot 62% from the three in the first. The high scoring second half, started with a run by the Hornets to give them the lead early, as they were able to hold that lead for the majority of the second. The Owls then bounced back until the six-minute mark, where the Owls tied it up. Following that with a 9-0 run to boost their lead as they never let it up as they once again hit their late game free throws to put it away.
Griffin Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) led the Owls with 27 points, six rebounds and eight assists, including a perfect 14-14 from the free throw line, all of which came in the second half. Mendez finished with 20 points off 9-14 shooting, 2-4 from three and 13 rebounds. Dany Harris (Danbury, CT) finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Parker Onorato (Bath, ME) finished with 14 points off 5-9 shooting.
The Owls will host their final regular season game with another match vs NVU-Lyndon at 1:00PM.
