Owls Fall to Eagles in First NAC Game of the Year

BANGOR, ME – The Owls men's basketball team battled against the Husson University Eagles in their first North Atlantic Conference matchup of the year. The Owls were unable to hold off the Eagles despite first half lead. The Eagles would beat the Owls 88-72 off 60-point second half. This brings the Eagles to a 2-4 record and a 1-0 record in the NAC while the Owls sit at 1-5 and 0-1 in the conference.

It was a tale of two halves, as the Owls came out of the gate with a defensive intensity, holding the Eagles to just 28 points, coming off 32% shooting and just 2-9 from the three. While also forcing nine turnovers, the Owls were able to get some transition buckets to help their nearly 47% shooting and 45.5% shooting from deep. It was in the first five minutes of the second half where the Eagles made their comeback, a 13-point lead turned to one in just five minutes of play. Once the game was back to even the team battled for the following five minutes. The Eagles then slowly added to their lead, bringing their lead to double digits with just under six minutes to go in the game. The Owls continued to battle although the Eagles would not let up, continuing to hold off the Owls comeback attempt.

Four Owls players finished in double digits, led by Gilbert Jean Mendez's 16 points, also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists. Griffin Guerrette and Brice Lawrence each finished with 14 points, each with two threes. KJ Minter finished with ten points off 4-7 shooting and grabbing a team high six rebounds.

The Owls will down to southern Maine to take on Bowdoin College in a non-conference matchup.
