Owls Volleyball Celebrate Senior Day

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson University in a single match. The Owls fell to the Eagles three sets to one, bringing the Owls to a 3-4 NAC record, while the Eagles advance to 6-2.

The Owls would celebrate their senior day, as Hailey Kelly and Makayla Miskiewicz played the first game of their final regular season weekend.
 
Owls vs Eagles – 25-20, 25-14, 19-25, 25-17

The teams battled in the first set as the Owls would keep a slight lead early in the game, finding themselves up 10-8 before the Eagles would make a run to take the lead, 11-10. Some more back and forth brought the teams to 14 each, before a 6-1 run by the Eagles gave them a four point lead. Another run by the Owls brought the score to 21-20 in favor of the Eagles, before they went on a four point run to put the first set away. The second set, the Eagles would answer every short run by the Owls to keep a solid lead throughout the set.

In the third set, the Owls took all of the momentum. Coming out of the gate hot, with a 12-7 lead early. The Owls would continue to pressure the Eagles and capitalize on every one of their errors. With the Owls up by eight late in the game, the Eagles fought back to bring the game close. This time it was the Owls closing the door to take the win in the third set. The fourth set the Eagles bounced back as they went on a couple runs to gain a lead. Later going on a eight point run to eventually put the set and match away.

Senior Makayla Miskiewicz led the way with 17 kills on 48 attacks, her season high. Also adding ten digs on the defensive end and one service ace to give her 18 points in the match. Fellow senior Hailey Kelly led the team with 22 of the teams 38 assists on the day. Also recording seven digs and two service aces. Alondra Lopez-Aquino added six kills on the day, while Alexis Engel finished with 13 of the teams 57 digs.

The Owls will host their final regular season game vs number 1 seed Maine Maritime Academy tomorrow at 2:00PM.
