Owls Tie Eagles with Late Game Goal by Ireland

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Owls women's Soccer team traveled to Bangor, Maine to compete in a North Atlantic Conference match up against Husson University. The Owls tied the Eagles 1-1, this brings the undefeated Owls to a NAC record of 4-0-1, while the Owls now are 2-2-1 in the NAC.

The Eagles possessed the ball the majority of the game, while they led the Owls 28 to four in shots. Although with the 10 shot attempts in the first half, the Owls defense continued to fight. The Eagles would score in the 34th minute of the first half, goal by Natalie Aviolla, assisted by Alexa Thayer. In the start of the second half, the Eagles continued to apply pressure.Although, the Owls counter attacks continued to keep the Eagles honest. Forward Alexis Ireland would lead the Owls in these counter attacks, pressuring the defense. That pressure would pay off in the 75th minute of the game, a mistake by the Eagles resulted in a kick that Ireland blocked to eventually score the game tying goal.

Ireland led the Owls with three shots, two of which were on goal. Savannah Rodriguez led the Owls in goal with an impressive 11 saves on the day, only allowing the one goal.

The Owls will continue their weekend, heading south to Fisher College to play the non-conference game in Boston, Mass.
