Box Score 2 Myrtle Beach, SC - The University of Maine at Presque Isle split a pair of games on Monday to open up the 2019 season on their southern trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Owls (0-1) dropped a tough opening game 3 to 1 to Frostburg State (7-5). UMPI struggled to get the bats going but carried a 1 to lead into the bottom of the 5th inning. Me-Presque Isle scored the games 1st run in the top of the 4th when Jordi Legassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME) scored on a Roni Shaw (So. Payette, ID) groundout and RBI.
Frostburg State bounced back in the bottom of the 5th inning when they scored twice to take the lead as Amber Keene stroked a two-RBI double to left centerfield. Claire Hanlon added an RBI single in the 6th inning for an insurance run and a 3 to 1 lead for the Bobcats. UMPI had 3 hits on the game with Sarah Duncklee (Jr. Kearny, AZ) hitting a double, while Frostburg State had 9 hits. The Bobcats winning pitcher Katelyn Mehrling (4-1) went the distance giving up 3 hits and striking out 3. Brookelynn Garcia (So. Torrance, CA) pitched the first 4 innings for the Owls and Marissa Valdivia-Reagle (0-1) tossed 2 innings taking the loss on the mound.
Myrtle Beach, SC - UMPI 12 - Sarah Lawrence College 3. Brookelynn Garcia (1-0) got the win on the mound for the Owls going 6 innings and freshman Savannah Borland (Fr. Brownsville, TX) recorded her 1st career strike out while pitching the 7th.
Jordi Legassie went 3 for 3 at the plate, as did Mel Terry (So. Fresno, CA) to pace the Owls. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) and Sarah Dunclee each went 2 for 3. The Owls evened their record at (1-1)
