Box Score BANGOR, ME – The Owls Volleyball team saw improvements as their first match of the season progressed, but ultimately the Eagles were too much, and downed the Presque Isle team 3-0.
The first game was a forgettable one, as multiple attack errors put the UMPI team in too deep of a hole to dig out of, and Husson took the first game 25-6. It looked as though the second game was going to be more of the same, as the Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Owls showed some resiliency however, fighting back and cutting into that lead. UMPI would be serving trailing 16-11, but Husson would run off a string of six straight points, and eventually take the second game 25-14. The third game started off as a back and forth battle. A Hannah Boyce (SR, Bar Harbor, ME) service ace, and a kill by Katie Paternaude (SR, Presque Isle, ME) put the Owls up 3-1. The Eagles would regain the lead, but not for long, as the Owls fought back once again, taking a 6-5 lead. However, it would be the last time the Presque Isle team would be on top. Although the visitors would hang in the game, a five point run eventually put the game out of reach, and the hosts would sweep the match, taking the third game 25-15.
Abby Jewett (JR, Bass Harbor) led the Owls with 4 kills, while Boyce would collect 3 service aces in the match.
