Owls Clipped by Machias

Box Score

MACHIAS, ME - The UMPI Owls visited Maine Machias Tuesday night.  The Clippers were able to shut out the visitors and take a 2-0 victory.

As the game started both teams had equal possession, both having offensive chances just not being able to convert. The Clippers were the first to break the dead-lock with a goal in the 13th minute scored by Anthony Gonzalez (FR, Riverside, CA), assisted by Alejandro Zeijas. The Clippers added to their lead in the second half, in part due to a defensive error that resulted in Haidar Al-Feihy (FR, Gray, ME) finishing the un-assisted opportunity in the 34th minute. Although the Owls were down 2-0 going into the half, they did not slow their pace of the game or waiver in their effort. As the second half progressed the game got more physical leading to three yellow cards, two for the Owls and one for the Clippers. For the Owls, Derek Healy (JR, Hanover, MA) and Johnny Theriault (FR, Fort Fairfield, ME) picked up yellows, and for the Clippers David Cisneros (FR, Horizon City, TX). The game ended 2-0 with the Clippers improving to 4-2 and the Owls dropped to 1-5. The possession was 50-50 with the Clippers out shooting the Owls 17-12.

After the game, Head Coach Alan Gordon shared his thoughts.  "I was very pleased at the overall team effort, Machias is a quality team and we had our chances. Couple of bounces one way or another could have made all the difference."

The Owls will compete next on Saturday, September 19 as they host Fisher College.  The weekend's games will be a part of the annual UMPI Homecoming festivities.  The game is scheduled to start at 2 PM.
