Box Score PORTLAND, ME – Mohamud Abukar (FR, Lewiston, ME) scored two goals for the Owls, leading them to a 3-0 victory over Southern Maine Community College.
Caleb Bragg-Grady (SR, Whitefield, ME) recorded six saves in the shutout, denying the Seawolves any chance of getting in the game. The Owls would take the lead in the 22nd minute when Cody Blair (FR, Ashland, ME) found the net. He was assisted by Johnny Theriault (FR, Fort Fairfield, ME). Just a few minutes later, UMPI struck again, an unassisted goal by Abukar, giving the Owls a 2-0 lead at the half. Abukar would add an insurance goal in the 66th minute, putting the game out of reach for SMCC.
Bragg-Grady's performance in net proved to be crucial in this meeting as the Owls and Seawolves matched eachother closely in shots, with UMPI taking a slight 15-14 advantage. The Owls would put 11 of those shots on goal, compared to SMCC's seven.
The Owls will take their momentum on the road again next weekend as they visit Fisher College on Saturday, October 17th. That game is scheduled to start at 3 PM. They will then visit Wheelock College on Sunday, October 18th, starting at 1:30 PM.
