Box Score Establishing an inside-out presence throughout the contest, Maine-Fort Kent was able to control Maine-Presque Isle for the majority of the contest, coming out with a 67-47 win Thursday night.
The teams traded baskets in the early going, the Bengals riding three three-point goals from Jorge Matesanz, while Maine-Presque Isle counter-punched with inside baskets by freshman Maurice Harris and freshman Kevin Collins. An initial shift in momentum came when Maine-Fort Kent went to a 1-3-1 zone, and took advantage of cold Owl's shooting from the perimeter. Maine-Fort Kent enjoyed a 31-23 haltime lead.
Despite turning the ball over only three times in the first half, the first three possessions began the deminse for Maine-Presque Isle, with consecutive turnovers and two that led to points in transition for the Bengals. Facing a double-digit deficit, the Owls were able to fight back riding the hot shooting of sophomore Nick Lenhard.
The Bengals were able to stem the tide, however, and key baskets from Joe McCloskey and Jake Rioux bulged the Fort Kent advantage back into double figures. The Owls finished at 25% from the floor for the night. Junior Chase Vicaire and freshman Trevor Lovely grabbed six and five rebounds respectively.
Maine-Presque Isle will have a chance to get back to their winning ways at home Sunday as they host NAIA Fisher. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
