Warner's Career Day Not Enough To Slow Down Daemen

Box Score

(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- University of Maine-Presque Isle's Michael Warner (Jr./Norwich, UK) scored a career-high 28 points on a near perfect 10-12 shooting from the floor on Friday night but it was not enough to keep his Owls close to visiting Daemen College as the Wildcats left Presque Isle with a 93-70 victory.

Daemen, #4 in the latest USCAA Division I Coaches' Poll, are now 20-5 on the season.  The Owls fell to 7-9.

One of the reasons the Wildcats were able to withstand Warner's barrage was Jim Regan matching him nearly bucket for bucket.  The 6'7 senior shot 11-20 on the floor to post 31 points while also pulling down 10 rebounds.

The Owls made a game of things early on, trailing only 18-17 midway through the first half.  That is as close as they could get the rest of the half though as the Wildcats outscored the Owls 20-6 before the break.

Down 38-23 to start the 2nd, Warner scored 6 in a quick 11-4 run over the first 1:50 to get the hosts to within 8.

But then it was Regan's turn to go on a run and put the game out of reach once and for all.  The Wildcat forward scored 9 points before the 16-minute media timeout and the Daemen lead was back in the comfortable double-digits where it would stay the rest of the night.

Two other DC starters reached double-figures: Casey Sheehan (15) and Jordan Greenie (10).

Daemen used a 42-25 advantage on the glass to help their cause.

After Warner's 28, Claude Louis' (Jr./Union, NJ) 15 was the only other Owl in double digits.

Both teams will play again Saturday.  While Daemen continues north to face UMaine-Fort Kent in a rematch of a match-up that played out earlier this season in New York, the Owls will stay home to take on UMaine-Augusta.  Tip time for the Owls game will be 2pm.

Game Notes

*  Jayson Burke (Fr./Bar Harbor, ME) saw his first action of the new year on Friday night, coming off the bench to score 5 points and pull down 1 rebound in 16 minutes of action.

*  Despite the loss, the Owls took care of the ball against a good team.  Presque Isle only turned the ball over 9 times while dishing out 9 assists in the game.  Daemen had 11 ballhandling miscues while combining for 10 assists.

*  Recently a member of the NAIA, Daemen currently reside in the USCAA, but next year will drop their USCAA afilliation in favor of becoming an NCAA Division II school.

*  Despite falling two-games under .500, the Owls have already more than doubled last year's win total (3) in this, head coach Jim Casciano's 2nd season in Presque Isle.
