(TAKOMA PARK, MD) -- After being shutout in both games of a doubleheader on Monday, the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's softball team's bats came alive on Tuesday against Washington Adventist University.  Unfortunately for the Owls, who were playing their 6th and 7th road games in the last 5 days, the Shock were one better on each occasion, posting 5-4 and 12-11 victories.  The Owls are now 1-12 in 2012.  They will take the day off on Wednesday before continuing their spring break trip stopping in Boston, MA for a doubleheader on Thursday against the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Game #1  Washington Adventist 5, UMPI 4
The Shock jumped on Owls' starter Krista Coffin (So./Presque Isle, ME) for 3 runs in the first inning after UMPI had pushed a run across to start the game.  Coffin settled in after the opening stanza only giving up 2 runs the rest of the way, scattering 5 hits and striking out 5.  Heading into their final crack at starter Sarah Cooley the Owls found themselves down 5-3.  UMPI was able to push a run across in the top of the 7th but could not manage the tying run as they dropped their 5th straight, 5-4.  The Shock's Cooley pitched a complete game for the win, giving up 5 hits, striking out 8 UMPI batters while issuing only one free pass.

Game #2  Washington Adventist 12, UMPI 11
The top 4 hitters in Owls' coach Peter Coffin's batting order jumped all over Cooley in game two. Desiree Smith (Sr./Thomaston, ME), Kellie Peers (Jr./Caswell, ME), Kathleen Higgins (Sr./Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia), and Carolynn Tuck (Sr./Brewer, ME) each collected 2 hits and combined to score 6 of UMPI's 11 runs.  Trailing 6-3 to the Shock in the 5th inning the Owls offense exploded for 8 runs to take an 11-6 lead.  WAU answered right back in the bottom of the 5th however with 6 runs of their own to re-take the deciding 12-11 advantage.  

Courtney Bishop pitched the second game for the Owls.  Bishop gave up 20 hits and 10 runs.
