Bobcats Start Fast, Cruise Past Owls

Box Score

(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- The Bates College women's basketball team used torrid jump shooting to breeze past the University of Maine-Presque Isle Wednesday night, 88-62.

After a Rashell Saucier (So./Washburn, ME) layup less than a minute into the game gave the Owls a score on their first possession, Bates poured in 23 straight points over the next nine minutes to take a commanding 26-2 lead.  UMPI did go on a 9-0 run to pull within 15 but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Bates ends its season with a 11-13 record.  The Owls fell to 8-15.

Using an up-tempo style with frequent substitutions, the Bobcats were able to draw in the UMPI defense and kick out for open three-point opportunities.  For the game, Bobcat shooters were 86% (12-14) from long distance led by Allie Beaulieu who was 4-4 on three's, finishing with 12 points.

Owls' guard Emily Pelletier (Jr./Fort Kent, ME) was solid from behind the arc herself making 5-8 three's en route to leading all scorers on the night with 15.  Amber Cloutier (Fr./Lewiston, ME) chipped in a career-high 10 points while fellow freshman Becca Campbell (Fr./Washburn, ME) pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.

UMPI will finish up its 2011-2012 campaign on Friday February 17th, when they travel to Randolph Center, VT to take on Vermont Tech.  Gametime is set for 5:30pm.
