Box Score (FORT KENT, ME) -- Sequels rarely live up to the original. The UMPI women's basketball team would agree with this adage after suffering a 59-51 defeat to the hands of rival UMaine-Fort Kent on Friday night. The loss comes at the heels of the two teams playing in an epic 3OT battle just 3 days earlier in Presque Isle that UMFK pulled out, 74-73.
After getting out to a quick 8-1 lead in the game's opening minutes, things slowly turned for the Owls. UMPI was outscored 27-12 the rest of the half and was kept at arm's length by the Bengals the rest of the way.
During the 3OT marathon, hitting free throws (13-25) was the issue for UMPI. In Fort Kent, just getting to the line was the issue. While the Owls (8-13) were 2-3 from the charity stripe, the Bengals (9-11) shot a whopping 24 free throws, hitting 16.
Four Fort Kent scorers finished in double figures led by Taylor Boucher's 13.
UMPI was led in scoring by Renee Moore (So./Lisbon, ME) who finished with 12 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor and shot the Owls' only free throws going 2-3.
Presque Isle returns to action on Sunday, February 12th on Senior Day. They will host Virginia University - Lynchburg. Game time is 1pm.
