Box Score (PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- UMPI's Patrick Manifold (Jr./Great Yarmouth, UK) went 11-15 from the floor on Sunday afternoon against the University of Maine-Augusta en route to a 30-point, 11 rebound performance in the Owls 78-44 win over the Moose.
The win for Presque Isle (3-9) avenges a loss at the hands of UMA, 67-52, earlier this season and snaps the team's 8-game losing streak. UMA falls to 6-12.
The game got off to a great start for the Owls as they jumped out to a 17-2 advantage. Augusta battled back with a 15-2 run of their own to pull within two at 19-17 with just over 6 minutes remaining in the half. UMPI regrouped to stretch the lead back out to nine at the end of the half, 31-22.
The 2nd half started nearly identical as the first as UMPI came out of the blocks hot, going on an 18-1 run over the first 8 minutes. There would be no second big comeback for the Moose however as the Owls stretched their lead to as many as 37 (72-35) with under five minutes remaining.
Taking care of the ball was a key to the UMPI win. The Owls dished out 16 assists and turned the ball over only 6 times in the game compared to only 4 assists and 17 turnovers for UMA.
Manifold got plenty of help in the scoring column. Brad Trask (Jr./Easton, ME) and Kyle Corrigan (Jr./Caribou, ME) each finished with 12 points while Aaron Hutchins (So./East Millinocket, ME) added 10.
The UMPI men will now get a week to prepare for a re-match with the Roos of SUNY-Canton next Sunday, January 22nd . During the Owls last road trip it was Canton walking away with a 68-45 win. Gametime at UMPI's Wieden Gym will start at 2pm.
