University of Maine at Presque Isle Athletics Hall of Fame
Andy Jones is recognized as an inductee into the University of Maine at Presque Isle owls Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements on the men's basketball team. Jones, a 1987 UMPI graduate, as he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. The four year men's basketball player for the Owls, played from 1983-87. Jones went on to finish his career as the 5th all-time leading scorer at UMPI, with 1,111 career points, currently ranked 12th on the UMPI all-time list.
Jones would average 10.6 points per game over his career, while shooting 51.8% from the field and 80.8% at the free throw line, which put him first all-time in UMPI history in 1987, currently third. His career was highlighted during his sophomore season, where he would score 476 points in the 1984-85 season while shooting 50% from the field. During this season, Jones would be named the MVP of the men's basketball team by UMPI in the yearly awards.
Continuing to improve his shooting throughout his career, Jones would shoot 59% from the field during his senior year, 1986-87. In his final year, Jones was selected to the 1987 NAIA All-Star Team. Throughout his career, he was named captain for two of his four years, while earning the team varsity award in 1984.
After graduating from UMPI, Jones began his career as a Sales and Operations Manager at American Color Labs. Shortly after, Jones opened Brondy, Inc. Graphics and Marketing as the owner for five years, until 2013. Jones then transitioned his career to the United States Postal Service, where he continues to work. Jones also spent four years in the United States Marine Corps for four years as Corporal E-4.
