Ricky Goupille Headshot

Ricky Goupille

Goupille is a true Presque Isle native, graduating from Presque Isle High School in 2020, and beginning as a student at UMPI the following fall. As a sophomore, Goupille walked onto the baseball team and played in 34 of 35 games as a first-year player in 2022. In the second half of 2023, he put together an impressive conference slate of games hitting .396. Goupille would play three seasons as an outfielder under head coaches Roger Stinson and Dan Prigge. His playing career was ultimately highlighted during his final season where he was named to the NAC All-Conference Second Team with a .307 batting average on 27 hits. Goupille also played two seasons on the UMPI golf team for coach Gavin Kane, competing in the NAC championship in the fall of 2023.

Outside of being an athlete, Goupille served in a variety of ways at UMPI. He was a key writer for the University Times, a student-led newspaper for three years, and wrote many pieces on UMPI and Presque Isle sports. He graduated cum laude from the Communication and Journalism Program this past May.

Some may recognize Goupille’s name as being the voice of the Owls. Goupille volunteered as the play-by-play announcer for UMPI Soccer and Basketball home games for three years. This helped him to work on his skills as a communicator and broadcaster, while also improving the quality of UMPI’s livestreams by giving viewers a narrative description of the action for those that may have been unable to actively watch. This experience gave him a helpful look inside the athletic department, and the North Atlantic Conference as well.
He attributes this to being invaluable experience he gained as a student that will help him get a head start as the new SID.

Outside of UMPI, Goupille is very involved in the sports community in Aroostook County. He has worked as a broadcaster for WHOU.live, calling many high school sporting events. He also coached baseball at the Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department for eight years, and can be seen umpiring baseball games during the spring sports seasons.

“We are excited to have Ricky joining our athletics staff. His skillset and passion for sports, especially all of the UMPI athletic teams will make him an excellent addition to our department,” said UMPI Executive Director of Athletics & Recreation Dan Kane. Goupille’s passion for the work, and Division III Athletics as a whole are what stand out the most. “I’ve always had an interest in this kind of thing, and really can’t wait to get started to help build UMPI athletics, and also help contribute to intercollegiate athletics, a cause very near and dear to my heart.”
