BRUNSWICK, ME – The Owls Volleyball team (9-16) went up against some of their toughest competition to date, falling to Middlebury and Bowdoin by scores of 3-0.
Middlebury def. UMPI 3-0 (25-6, 25-15, 25-18)
Middlebury was efficient in their attack, hitting at a .355 PCT, while collecting eight service aces on their way to sweeping the Owls.
Maddi Thweatt (FR, Middleton, ID) would tally seven kills. Miranda Washinawatok (FR, Shawano, WI) would end up with nine digs, while Taylor Johnson (FR, Eagle, ID) would add eight. Brittney Harper (FR, East Mountain, NS) ended the match with 12 assists and five digs.
Bowdoin def. UMPI 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-9)
Bowdoin would record kills on 34 of their 70 attack attempts, which would give them a .300 hitting percentage. Eight service aces, six solo blocks, and four assisted blocks would also help lift the host school over UMPI on Saturday.
The Owls would record just nine kills as a team in the matchup, and ended with a negative attack percentage. Thweatt would lead the defense with five digs, while Johnson would end with a pair of service aces.
UMPI will play host to the University of Maine at Machias on Wednesday. The doubleheader of matches begins at 5 pm.
