Eagles End Skid Against Owls

Presque Isle vs. Green Mountain College

Green Mountain College ended a streak of six-straight losses with a victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle, 3-1.  The win improves the Eagles record to 1-6 while the Owls remain in search of their first win, sliding to 0-11 on the season.

Green Mountain and UMPI split the first two sets of the match with Green Mountain taking the first in come-from-behind fashion, 29-27, while UMPI won the conventional way in the second set with a 25-19 win. Fatigue appeared to play a factor for UMPI as the team was playing in back-to-back matches after going five sets in its previous match with SUNY Cobleskill.

The Eagles had the luxury of being fresh and took advantage with comfortable wins in the third and fourth sets, 25-10 and 25-19.

Junior middle blocker Torie Cowell led all hitters with 11 kills and was followed closely by senior middle blocker Madison Wage who had 10 and hit an impressive .233 in the match in addition to two solo blocks at the net.

UMPI's junior middle hitter Shannon Brown led all Owl hitters with eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Hannah Boyce and freshman outside hitter Abby Jewett each had five and four kills, respectively. Senior libero Molly Lindsey buoyed the defense with a team-high 18 digs and received support from junior outside hitter Amanda Allen who tallied 14 digs. Junior setter Morgan Swan was credited with 14 assists as she directed the offense.
