Owls Fall to Eagles

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls women's soccer team hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson University Eagles in a NAC Divisional match. Despite some lack of personnel the Owls put up quite the fight early on before the Eagles put the game away late, finishing the game with a 4-1 victory.

The Owls struck first with a solo goal by Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) to give the Owls an early lead at the 12-minute mark. The Eagles answered quickly with a goal in the 13th minute to even the score at one. With Husson maintaining possession the majority of the game, the Owls defense held their ground making it tough for the Eagles to get quality shots. The defense by the Owls, alongside the hand full of great saves by Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) kept the score tied for the first two thirds of the game.

It was in the 60th minute that the Eagles were able to put one away to give them the lead. With pressure on the Owls net, UMPI scored an own goal to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Late in the game, more pressure at the net resulted in a goal by Jaley Martin to give Husson their last goal in the 88th minute.

Rodriguez finished her 76 minutes in the net, with 11 saves on their 14 shots on goal. Ireland led the charge for the Owls on the offensive end with constant pressure. While the team defense from UMPI kept them in the game for the majority of the match.

The Owls will host their next game vs another NAC opponent, in Northern Vermont University – Johnson. Kick off October 9 at 1:00PM.
