Canton, NY – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls women's soccer team finished their weekend road trip in New York today in a double overtime match vs North Atlantic Conference opponent SUNY Canton. Canton took the win with an overtime goal early in the second OT, 2-1.
In a game of two halves, Canton came out aggressive with 13 shots in the first half compared to UMPI's one. Although the second half would be a different story as the Owls came out a new team, with eight shots compared to the Roos two.
Canton's first half performance gave them an early lead with a goal in the 25th minute. The Owls came out of the second half with energy and an early goal, just three minutes in the second half to tie the game. The goal was scored by Hannah Nadeau (So. Madawaska, ME) and assisted by Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA), Neadeau's sixth goal on the year came at the 48th minute.
The score stayed even at one for the remainder of regulation, despite the four shots on goal by UMPI in the last 25 minutes of the game. The first overtime was all defense by both teams as there was not a shot for either team. Early in the second OT, Logan Green of Canton scored the game winning goal at the 102-minute mark. Savannah Rodriguez (Fy. Presque Isle, ME) spent the game in the goal and ended with nine saves on the day.
UMPI now falls to 6-4-2 in the regular season and 2-2-1 in the NAC. Canton improves to 4-8-1, 3-3-1 in the NAC.
The Owls will head home to host non-conference opponent Fisher College, Sunday the 20th at noon.
