Castine, ME - Maine Maritime Academy is sitting on top of the North Atlantic Conference women's soccer standings and The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls found out the hard way why the Mariners (10-2, 5-0) are the League's best at this point, coming out on the short end of a 10 to 0 game Saturday afternoon. The match was played on the Campus of MMA in Castine.
The Owls played tough through the opening 10 minutes of the game before the Mariners would go on a scoring spree and sprint into halftime with a 7 to 0 advantage. MacKenzie Carter from Ashland, ME scored the first goal for MMA on an assist from Margot Simeon at the 10:34 mark. Just over 3 minutes later Carter would drive a second goal into the corner of the net after receiving another pass from Simeon. At the 14:12 mark Freshman midfielder Simeon would get in on the scoring on a feed from Makayla Lewis. Junior Eryn Doiron, a Mt. Blue High School standout, would score with the help of a Simeon assist and the Mariners had a 4 to 0 lead in the span of 5 minutes.
UMPI played on the defensive end of the field for most of the contest and were not able to generate any legitimate scoring opportunities. Goal Keeper Alexis Levesque (Jr. grand Isle, ME) had 7 saves in the net for Me-Presque Isle.
Next up: The Owls will play tomorrow, Sunday, October 14th at Unity College with a 1:00PM start time.
