Lyndonville, VT - The Northern Vermont University-Lyndon women's soccer team celebrated Homecoming Weekend with a 2-0 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon.  The win was Lyndon's (2-5, 1-1) first North Atlantic Conference victory since October of 2015. UMPI falls to (0-5, 0-2). 

Junior midfielder Kelsey Jacobs gave the Hornets the lead just under six minutes into the contest when she headed home a corner kick from EmmaLee Smith. Lyndon kept the pressure on early and broke through again in the 32nd minute when Makayla Epps lofted a pass over an Owl defender to Jessica Hillman, whose shot from 15 yards out beat UMPI keeper Alexis Levesque. The Hornets took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Lyndon continued to control play in the second half. The tempo slowed a bit and the UMPI defense prevented the Home Team from finding the net again. Hornets goalkeeper Lauren Young turned away solid scoring chances from the Owls' Jordi Legassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME) and Hannah Nadeau (Fr. Saint David, ME) in the 2nd half.

UMPI Keeper Alexis Levesque (Jr. Grand Isle, ME) was tough in net recording 16 saves. Hornets Keeper Young turned away 5 shots on goal and Victoria McCormack saved 2 shots late in the game.

The Hornets outshot the Owls 39-13 for the game and also had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Next Up: The Owls bounce right back into action on Sunday September 23rd to take on the Fisher Falcons in Boston, Massachusetts.
