Presque Isle – Playing its second game in four days against the University of Maine at Machias (2-0), the UMPI Owls women's soccer team (0-2) played a very solid 1st half taking a 1 to 0 lead into the break behind an unassisted goal from Jordi Legassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME). The Senior striker scored her goal at the 6:30 mark and the Owls held the Clippers at bay through 45 minutes of action. Keeper Alexis Levesque (Jr. Grand Isle, ME) was stellar in goal in the opening half making several outstanding saves.
UMM came out strong in the 2nd half with Amber Chasse scoring an unassisted goal six minutes into play and four minutes later the Clippers would strike again as Dawn Johnson broke free and put one in the back of the net. UMM would continue to pressure the Owls and scored five more times before the final horn. Freshman forward Morgan Doughty scored twice, one coming on an assist from Chasse, while Josie Griffin tallied a goal for the Clippers along with another score from Chasse and a goal by Elana Lancia.
Keeper Alexis Levesque recorded 15 saves on the afternoon for UMPI while Lancia stopped 5 shots on goal and Megan Cote had 3 saves splitting time in the net for the Clippers.
The UMPI Owls will have some time off before traveling to Northern Vermont-Johnson and Vermont Tech on September 15th and 16th. Full Schedule at www.owls.umpi.edu
