Owls Fall to SUNY Poly to Finish 1-1 on the Weekend

Presque Isle, ME – The Owls Women's basketball team hosted their second North Atlantic Conference cross-divisional game of the weekend. Losing to SUNY Poly 76-61 after a slow start. The Owls finished the weekend 1-1 as they now sit 7-4 on the season and 2-3 in the NAC.

Poly came out strong with all five starters with four points or more in the first 10 minutes, as they scored 27 points in the first. The Owls finished the first quarter with 15 points despite shooting well from deep. UMPI cut the lead by two to finish the first half and cut another point to end the third quarter. The lead was too great as the Owls were unable to gain back the lead in the fourth.

Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle, ME) led the Owls in scoring with 17 points on 50% shooting and 33% from beyond the arc. Paige Espling (Caribou, ME) finished the game with 16 points on 50% shooting as well. Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) finished the game with a double double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, five of which were offensive.

UMPI travels to Bowdoin College for a non-conference match up on Tuesday before continuing their conference play by traveling to Maine Maritime Academy where they will play a divisional double header, Jan. 21 and 22.
