BANGOR, ME – Husson University (5-15) shut out the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (17-9) in doubleheader action, taking game one 4-0 before winning the nightcap 8-0.
Game 1 – Husson def. UMPI – 4-0
The Eagles would take advantage of some defensive mistakes by the Owls to get a lead in game one. An error would set up Courtney MacIntyre (FR, Lincoln, ME) for an RBI as she would single in the second to drive in a run. In the third Allison Hill (SR, Calais, ME) would single to lead off the inning, and score when she stole second and the throw was off the mark, allowing her to race around and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Husson's starter Alannah Healy (JR, Brockton, MA) would keep UMPI's hitters off balance throughout. She would only surrender three hits and strike out six as the Owls would never really get a scoring threat put together. The Eagles would put together some hits in the to add some insurance runs and take a 4-0 victory.
Sara Packard (SO, St. Albans, ME) would pitch well, giving up just two earned runs and striking out six, taking a tough-luck loss.
Game 2 – Husson def. UMPI – 8-0
Husson would keep their momentum rolling in the second game, taking advantage of four Owl errors and collecting eight runs on nine hits to cruise to a win the nightcap.
The big blow came in the bottom of the second as the Eagles would score five runs on three hits and two UMPI errors, putting the game out of reach for the Owls.
Hanah Williams (FR, Park Falls, NS) would go two for three in the game. Nicole Marucci (SO, Naples, ME) would account for the only other offense for UMPI, going one for two in the game.
The Owls return to action on Saturday. They will travel to Lyndon State, first pitch is scheduled for noon.
