Farmington, ME. -- Maine-Presque Isle managed only six hits in a doubleheader against Maine-Farmington, dropping games 8-0, 7-1 Saturday afternoon.
Game One: Farmington 8 UMPI 0
Beaver Courtney Fowler controlled the Owl hitters, allowing only 3 hits in her 6 inning complete game shutout.
Carly Bell, Katie Patenaude and Ashley Dube had the hits for the Blue & Gold. Owl errors did not help the cause as freshman Sara Packard gave up only 4 earned runs in her 5+ innings of work, with the rest of the runs scoring as the result of three infield errors.
Game Two: Framington 7 UMPI 1
Not to be outdone by her predecessor on the mound, Emily Vitone also hurled a 3-hitter for the Beavers to lead Farmington to the sweep.
With the Beavers up 2-0 in the top of the 4th, freshman infielder Nicole Marucci walked and scored on a Dani Smith groundout to bring the Owls to within one run of tying the game.
That Owl momentum was short lived, as Farmington scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th frame. The Owls could only manage two more hits in the final 3 at bats and the Beavers took the game 7-1.
Marucci had a solid game, adding two hits to her walk and run. Smith registered the other hit for the Owls.
The Owls will next play Fisher College in Boston, Sunday afternoon.
